Dome D201 Review
When looking for the best dashboard camera, it is important to do your research in order to find one that is within your budget and gives you all of the features that you are looking for.
There are many dashboard cameras on the market so deciding on one can be a dubious task. As you shop, one that comes into mind which you should definitely consider is the Dome D201 dashboard camera.
When this dashboard camera came onto the scene, it was one of the first to use the new Ambarella A12A55 processor which enables it to record very impressive video at a 1440p resolution, a first for any dash cam.
Let’s start with the main features:
- Resolution: 2560×1440 @ 30fps
- Small size (99mm x 50mm x 35mm)
- 2.7″ screen
- Aperture: F/1.8
- Supports: Supports up to 512GB MicroSD cards
- Video Format: MP4
- Angle of view: 170° diagonal
- Auto On/Off
- Loop Recording
- Internal microphone
- GPS (optional extra)
- Lock File Button
- Suction mount
- High Dynamic Range (HDR) improved night vision
- Lane/Collision Detection Options
The clarity of this camera is almost unparalleled as all surrounding details captured on video are more than visible. Equipped with a 2.7″ screen and a memory slot capable of taking up to 512 MB SD cards, the Dome D201 is small and compact but extremely competent.
Video is taken in the standard MP4 format and even when the sun is not out you can rely on this dashboard camera to capture high quality video thanks to its enhanced night vision.
The Dome D201 employs loop recording and time/date stamps all video playback for easy reference. The storage capacity of this unit can hold about 60 hours of video before the loop kicks in and the oldest files are overwritten.
A suction mount allows for easy and painless installation to your dashboard and a 170 degree angle of view is more than enough to capture all of the action going on in front of you as you are cruising down the highway or driving through the city.
In addition, this highly intuitive dashboard camera has an internal microphone and speaker to enhance user interaction. As a bonus, the unit is also equipped with safety features such as a lane departure and front collision warnings system!
The only downside that can be found with the Dome D201 is that although this dashboard camera is small and compact, its appearance is not as subtle as others in its class.
GPS is an option, but getting a GPS stamp to a video is still a manual process.
The suction mount could also use a little more workmanship because going over bumps or driving on a graveled, rough road can make the unit vibrate excessively.
All in all, the Dome D201 dashboard camera is a solid choice with a price that won’t break the bank. When it comes to dashboard cameras, this one is a high caliber pick.
